Crossing Over
Hello all. I’ve gotten a few messages over the past few months asking whether I’ve been disintegrated due to faulty teleportation or caught in an ambre-lockdown. Unfortunately, nothing that exciting. I have however, moved across continents and thus found myself in a new city and a new job, which left little time for the wondrous world of fandom.
My Friday nights (or in my case, early Saturday mornings) are still consumed by Fringe, though I don’t have as much time to flail about it. Sadly, I also don’t have as much inclination. This season for me has been…difficult to embrace. I know there’s been debate within the fandom with regard to where the writers are taking this and how much of the characters are actually our characters. And, while I trust the writers implicitly, I can’t help feel, on personal level, that it’s already episode 11 and the only characters I’ve fully connected with thus far are Peter and Alt-livia because they remind me most of the characters I’ve spent the last few years getting to know. As a viewer, I find myself feeling alienated from this new world, where Lincoln Lee and Olivia Dunham are partners, where Nina Sharp is the ‘closest thing’ Olivia has to a mother. And so I continue watching, because Fringe is still my favourite show, because I’m still incredibly invested and because, well…Anna Torv. I just miss my Olivia, you know? The woman I’ve watched evolve and grow from the Pilot to the end of season 3.
